Every Delhi resident already knows the feeling. The haze that sits over the city for months at a time. The water that needs to be boiled, filtered and boiled again before anyone trusts it. The sense that things have been getting worse for years, quietly, while everyone adjusts and moves on because there doesn't seem to be another option.
There is another option. It starts with refusing to treat any of this as normal.
Why we started this campaign
Delhi Citizens Group didn't begin as an organisation with a plan — it began as a group of residents who were tired of watching problems get worse without anyone being held to account. Toxic air, unsafe water and an environment that makes daily life harder than it should be aren't separate issues affecting different people. They're the same crisis, showing up in every neighbourhood, just with different faces.
What we've learned from every site visit — from the landfill at Bhalswa to the contaminated taps in Babarpur — is that the people closest to these problems are rarely the ones with the power to fix them. Closing that gap is the entire point of this movement.
No one is coming to fix this for us. We build the Delhi we want, one ward at a time. — Varun Choudhary, Founder's note
What we're asking of you
We don't need every resident of Delhi to become a full-time activist. We need people willing to notice what's happening in their own colony, say something when it's wrong, and show up when it matters — at a site visit, a ward meeting, or simply by adding their name to a movement that refuses to accept the status quo.
A cleaner, healthier Delhi isn't going to be delivered from above. It's going to be built, street by street and ward by ward, by citizens who decided they'd had enough of waiting.
This is Delhi's fight. It's also yours.
Join the movement and help us hold this city to a higher standard.
